China Southern Airlines’ Returns Remains Of Eight Chinese Police
Officers From Haiti; Humanitarian Rescue Mission Air Lifts $1.9 Million in
Medicine, Water, Food

GUANGZHOU, China - January 19, 2010 - China Southern Airlines, (NYSE:ZNH) (HKSE: 1055) (SHA: 600029) - www.csair.com/global - the newest member of SkyTeam and the largest airline in The People's Republic of China announced that a chartered humanitarian flight to Haiti has returned to Beijing Capital International Airport morning this Tuesday, carrying the remains of eight Chinese officers who perished during the massive earthquake. 

Of the victims, four were officers of China's peacekeeping force in Haiti and the rest were in a team sent by the Ministry of Public Security of China to Port-au-Prince for peacekeeping consultations.

The eight were meeting UN officials in the headquarters of the UN Stabilization Mission in Port-au-Prince when the quake struck at about 4:50 p.m. Tuesday local time.

China Southerrn’s Boeing 747 cargo plane departed from Haiti’s capital city Port-au-Prince at 10:50 p.m. Sunday (Beijing Time), after dropping off the first batch of humanitarian aid materials from China to Haiti. The aid materials weighed some 90 tons and totaled RMB13 million yuan ($1.9 Million USD), including 1,000 tents, water, food, emergency lights, medicines, clothing and water purification equipment.

The 747 captain, Mr. Pu Xiao dong said that Port-au-Prince International Airport was a “mess” and “our flight hovered above Haiti for one hour, then we were forced to make an alternative landing at Norman Manley International Airport in Jamacia to refuel before receiving clearance to land in Haiti”.

China Southern Airlines’ humanitarian mission lasted 65 hrs, including 39 flight hours.
