| The safe and stable operation lay a solid foundation for China Southern’s lengthy list of achievements in 2008. The company weathered current global financial challenges such as increasing crude oil prices, declining domestic demands and intense competition. Domestically, China Southern withstood the difficulties such as unusual snow in southern China, the 8.0-magnitude May 12th Sichuan earthquake, the Olympics and Paralympics security services and excess capacity in aviation industry. Although negative growth first happened in China aviation industry in 2008 since the Reform and Opening-up, China Southern still reached passenger traffic of 60 million, leading in the domestic industry for 30 years successively, as the only carrier in mainland China entering into the world’s Top 10 passenger airlines - based on annual passenger traffic volume. |
